An award-winning director and choreographer, LARRY SOUSA’s work has been featured at theatres from coast to coast, including The Joyce Theatre in NYC, The Garry Marshall Theatre in Los Angeles, Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre, Pasadena Playhouse, Goodspeed Musicals, The New York Fringe Festival, Musical Theatre West, Wyoming Theatre Festival, Utah Musical Theatre, SpeakEasy Stage, The Boston Gay Men’s Chorus, Boston Children’s Theatre, Gloucester Stage, Reagle Music Theatre, and many more. His work also appears in commercials and films.
He is the choreographer of the new Broadway-bound musical MERRY GO ROUND featuring an original score by the legendary Sherman Brothers. For Toronto-based entertainment company CREATIVIVA, Larry directed two original musicals currently running in Turks and Caicos.
In 2019, Harvard University welcomes Larry as director/choreographer of the legendary HASTY PUDDING SHOW, now in its 171st year. This summer, Larry heads to San Diego to direct and choreograph the world premiere of ANOTHER ROLL OF THE DICE, a new musical by 7-time Emmy Award winner Mark Saltzman, with songs by Frank Loesser.
Larry is a recipient of the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award, the L.A. Ovation Award, two Backstage Garland Awards, the OnStage Critics Award, and multiple IRNE Awards, to name a few. He is an NAACP Theatre Award and Los Angeles Weekly Theatre Award nominee, and a two- time winner of the American Dance Awards Choreographer of the Year prize.
Larry is on the faculty of the prestigious Boston Conservatory. His recent productions there include Leonard Bernstein’s MASS, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS (choreography), a developmental workshop of ANOTHER ROLL OF THE DICE, and Sondheim’s THE FROGS, premiering this April with musical direction by Broadway veteran Eric Stern.
Larry also regularly teaches at Berklee, Bridgewater State University, and he is an alumnus and longtime faculty member of The Gold School/Project Moves Dance Company. He is a sought-after master class teacher at countless performing arts programs across the USA and Canada. He is a frequent contributor to DANCE STUDIO LIFE magazine, and served as a "Special Awards" judge at respected performing arts competitions for over 20 years.
Before pursuing directing and choreography full-time, Larry performed in numerous Broadway musicals, TV sitcoms, films, and commercials.
He holds a BFA in theatre from ITHACA COLLEGE, and pursued a unique interdisciplinary MFA in theatre at the UNIVERSITY of CALIFORNIA at IRVINE.
